First off, Halloween is a crazy day itself. Then, throw in NFL trade deadline, a MLB World Series game and the 1st rankings in College Football Playoff? Things got extra crazy yesterday.
Lets start with NFL Trade Deadline:
- Cleveland pulls a Cleveland move: How can one franchise be this bad finding a quarterback? It boggles my mind. Cleveland had a deal with the Bengals that would’ve netted them AJ McCarren. Deal was done with reports saying Bengals called it in 5 minutes before the deadline passed. What does Cleveland do? They celebrated too much and forgot to call it in the NFL head office. I mean seriously? Shouldn’t you have one guy (or girl) that their main job is to call in the trade? Especially, with only 5 minutes until the deadline passes. AJ must have a lot of good karma on his side for that to happen. He woke up today thinking “I’m invincible”.
- Panthers trade their No. 1 WR: Carolina traded Kelvin Benjamin to the Buffalo Bills for 2018 3rd and 7th round picks. WHAT?! Panthers, who are in the playoff hunt, traded their number 1 wide receiver. I know that Devin Funchess has been playing well, but he’s not a #1 receiving threat. Greg Olsen is coming back plus they have McCaffery and Samuel, but this still doesn’t make any sense. The guy has had an injury history, but has flashed as a top NFL wideout. (A little salty at this since I had him in NFC only league).
- Green Bay stand pat: Not much to say other than Ted being Ted. Needs offensive line help, but lets just throw in someone from the d-line if we need to.
College Football Playoffs:
There’s a first time for everything. The committee, finally, looked at head-to-head match-ups. Oklahoma is ahead of Ohio St. Georgia has a win against Notre Dame (whos #3). Also, schedule MATTERS! Badger fans are going to be mad (rightfully so) because they are ranked #9 with an undefeated record. I’ve been saying this for years: Play teams that aren’t cupcakes! They’re in the weaker division in the Big Ten plus they don’t play Penn St, Ohio St or Mich St this year from the East. That left them with 1 game against a ranked opponent for the regular season. Michigan has had a tumultuous season so now Wisconsin’s only game against a ranked opponent is the Big Ten Championship. It’s not like they’re blowing away teams either. A lot of their games have been relatively close and they won’t have a signature win until Big Ten Championship. Moving On to baseball.
MLB World Series:
Didn’t I tell you this was going to 7 games? The story line was there for the Astros with Verlander on the mound. He almost became a Dodger, but instead was traded to Houston. Houston has had a lot of problems this year especially with the hurricane. I just knew, though, it was going to 7 games. The series has been too good to end early. Now, we have game 7 tonight. Who’s pitching? McCullers is going for Houston with Darvish on the mound for the Dodgers. Great match up, but if things get a little testy, look for the teams to go through their pitching staffs. Remember, there’s no DH. So bases loaded with an out you could see a pinch hitter. All hands on deck tonight! Should be interesting.
PS- I’m getting sick of the cold weather already. Give me back my 70-80 degree weather.
