Week 9 Picks

You’re probably saying DR, “Why don’t you do this article on Thursdays for your picks?”.  The answer to that is it’s a waste of time.  Thursday night games are some of the worst games every week.  Last week, Ravens won 40-0.  Last night, it turned out to be relatively a good game, but it was the Bills and Jets.  Did anyone really watch that game?  I don’t know what the Jets are doing.  Are they trying to win or are they playing for a draft pick?  They have the same odds of going to the playoffs as they do the #1 pick.  Bad spot for a team that needs to rebuild.  Looking at the slate this weekend, we don’t really have a ton of good games.  So let’s get right into the picks.

Noon Games

Ravens at Titans (-3.5)- It sounds like Joe Flacco is going to be good to go this game, but does that really matter?  It’s better than having Ryan Mallet throwing the football.  Titans are a team that has a lot of potential, but they seem to throw these games away.  Will Mariota be Mariota?  I’m going with the Titans only because they’re at home.  Titans 20-17.

Buccaneers at Saints (-7)-  Drew Brees is always better when he plays at home.  The Buccaneers will be looking to end a 4 game losing streak while going for the first win on the road.  Expecting a shootout in the Dome for this one.  When that happens, Drew Brees usually wins out.  Saints 38-30.

Rams (-3.5) at Giants- Giants look horrible.  They have no running game, which would be fine if they had their receiving core.  Odell’s out.  Marshall’s out.  Shepard’s banged up.  Jenkins is suspended.  Normally, I would take the home team when there’s a cross country trip.  McVey seems to be the real deal when it comes to being a head coach.  Todd Gurley is having a redemption year and the Goff/Kupp connection is coming around.  Rams 24-13.

Broncos at Eagles (-7.5)- Vance Joseph declared Brock Osweiler the starting quarterback.  When that happens, you know your season isn’t going as planned.  The guy was cut from the Browns.  Again, the guy was cut from the Browns.  Eagles are picking up speed at 7-1, which can be good and bad at this point.  The way their winning reminds me of the Packers 15-1 season while losing in the divisional round of the playoffs.  Still, for this game, I believe they keep it going.  Eagles 23-14.

Bengals at Jaguars (-5.5)- Jags have added to their already dominate defensive line by acquiring Dareus at the deadline.  I think Sacksonville will be disrupting Dalton all day long.  Especially, if Lewis doesn’t get his head out of his ass and doesn’t give Mixon the ball.  Fournette should be back in this week so Jags won’t have to rely on Bortles.  Jaguars 27-17.

Colts at Texans (-7)- This game will be interesting.  Both teams have lost their starting quarterbacks for the season.  Watson went down with a torn ACL this week while Colts shut Andrew Luck down.  Maybe Brissett can finally focus on playing football instead of if he’s going to be playing week after week.  The city of Houston is riding a high with the Astros winning the World Series, but I think that’s where it stops.  Colts 17-10.

Afternoon Games

Cardinals (-2.5) at 49ers- 49ers traded for Jimmy Garoppolo, at the deadline.  Shannahan came out and said he might not play this year.  That’s a load of crap.  You’re not trading for Jimmy just to have him sit, then pay him a boatload of money this offseason.  This week it makes sense to sit him since he needs to learn the playbook.  So that leaves them with Beathard for another week.  Cardinals aren’t much better at the quarterback position with Palmer out.  49ers have a better identity and feel for what they want to do.  49ers 20-17.

Redskins at Seahawks (-7.5)- Redskins are banged up on the offensive line as well as Jordan Reed is out of this game.  Not sure what Pryor has been doing all season even after he says he’s been hurt.  Seattle looks like they are back to being Seattle, again.  I think this will be closer than the line says, but Seattle it is for me.  Seahawks 27-21.

Chiefs at Cowboys (-1.5)-  For once, this is actually the game of the week.  Usually, Dallas just gets this game because it’s Dallas.  News just broke that Zeke will be playing in this game so that helps Dallas out.  I see a big game for Kareem Hunt especially after Aaron Jones went all out on Dallas earlier this season.  Expect a shootout.  Chiefs 34-31.

Sunday Night

Raiders (-3) at Miami-  Which Oakland team shows up for this game?  Is it the Oakland of late or the Oakland of last year?  Miami is in shambles.  Tannehill goes down for the year.  They bring in Cutler.  Coach gets caught snorting coke before meetings.  Trade Ajayi away for nothing.  Almost traded Landry.  The list goes on.  They do get Cutler back this week, which is somehow an upgrade.  Oakland 27-14.

Monday Night

Lions (-2.5) at Packers- Interesting game we have on tap here.  Packers are without Rodgers coming off a bye.  McCarthy is 3-0 against the Lions after the bye week.  Lions have won once, at Lambeau since 1991.  IF (that’s a big IF), McCarthy comes out with a gameplan that will let Hundley be Hundley, then the Packers win.  They are coming out somewhat healthy after the bye.  I don’t have faith McCarthy can gameplan without Rodgers.  Lions 17-14 (Only because Packers lost last time I picked them).

Well there you have it folks.  Those are my picks and I’m sticking to them.  Let me know your thoughts on this weekend of shitty games.
