Dave Matthews announced Summer Tour.. disappointed

Yesterday, Dave Matthews announce his summer tour schedule. Before I get into how disappointed I am, let me give you a little back story.

Every year, I wait until the day they announce the tour. It’s awesome because normally they come play at Alpine Valley Amphitheater. If you haven’t been there, I suggest you see a show there. They usually come for two nights the first weekend in July, which we would go both nights.

My father-in-law has a friend who lives down in the area so we would stay at his house. He has about 4 acres of land so we would bring a big group down there and camp out on the property. We would get down there early to set up and hang out. Play some games, share some laughs and enjoy everyone’s company. Then, we would leave for the first night of the concert. The way to the venue, from his house, cuts almost all of the traffic off. So it’s an easy in to the venue, which also makes it an easy out. Suffice it to say, it’s a weekend to look forward to each and every year.

Last year, Dave decided to take off for the first time in 25 years. Not to say he didn’t tour, but it was the first time that the whole band didn’t tour together. Alpine also shut down for the summer to make renovations to the venue. So this year, it was a much more anticipation to see the dates they come back since it’ll be two years since I’ve seen him. Then, Alpine released that they were opening back up for 2018 in the hopes of having Dave, Zac Brown Band, Phish, etc to come play like normal.

Well…

The anticipation was for not. Dave isn’t coming to Alpine this year. He’s only coming for one night and that’s at Summerfest. Believe me, it’s not worth going to see at Summerfest. There’s too many different genres playing at the same time so it’s not the same vibe as you get at a solo concert with Dave Matthews. Plus, you don’t get the weekend that comes along with Dave weekend. I know there’s some venues that people like more, but once you’ve seen a show at Alpine with the set up that we have there’s no place that can live up to it. Sure, he’s coming to Chicago for two nights, but Chicago’s not the same.

So alas, the anticipation goes on for next year.
